sometime this week marked three whole years of me living and breathing in bonavista
✨
✨

life has been hitting very hard and very fast
here are some moments of stillness + stuff i made from the last quarter of the year
here are some moments of stillness + stuff i made from the last quarter of the year

i did it!! it happened!! i opened my first solo exhibition last night :’) it was a perfect evening, thank you to everyone who came out to show their support and to listen to me talk about my big brain ideas. You made me feel so special!!
In no particular order, huge thanks to the following folks (look at this as the credits rolling):
@johnnycylam for taking photos of me dancing and spinning
@livetextiles for helping me with my grants so i could have the funds to do this
@danielrumbolt and @kymgreeley for looking at my first grant application almost two years ago that got me the funds to start this whole thing
@frozenpartridgeberry for mentoring me last year and helping me get things together (and @vanlcarfac for giving us the mentorship opportunity)
@michelleleahmackinnon and @andrewtestaart for being my art parents
@janevwalker for being an art bestie
@unionhousearts board (@kclairemac @emilyjanstudio @wildcovepottery @kategolding and John Weber + megan and michelle who are already tagged) for overall being the best most supportive friends and board a gal could ask for, you have all taught me so much and have given me the chance to focus on my own work while holding up a whole organization ♥️♥️
@kendall_715_ for help with install
@cbrotaryarts and @beyourself36 for hosting my work and giving me the chance to share in a space that taught me how to be an artist
@hot4themoment (Georgia + Drew) for being my hot cheerleaders
@pat.j.ricketts for taking care of my buddy Gonzo while i was on the road + being an A+ neighbour and Bonavista buddy
to the land and this island for being my home and forever inspiring and holding me
and to all of my friends and family who have shaped and moulded me throughout my life, you have made me who i am! (and did a pretty good job of it i think)
and finally to @nl.arts.council and @canada.council for supporting the creation of this whole project ♥️
I am so lucky to be surrounded by so much love and support, and this is an experience that has taught me so much, and for that I will never take it for granted.
(DE)COMPOSING is up until February 18th, go see it while you can!!

🚨🚨🚨(DE)COMPOSING opens TOMORROW (Jan 11) at @cbrotaryarts from 6-8pm!!
I can’t wait to celebrate this body of work that has taken a lot of blood, sweat and tears to put together (literally, if u know u know) I’ll be at the Tina Dolter all evening and there are snacks and drinks available! Come party with me!!
If you can’t make it tomorrow night, the exhibition will be up until February 18th, so you’ve got plenty of time to go see it!
Thanks to @kendall_715_ for helping me paint and hoist prints onto a wall! U are the best!! And thank you to @johnnycylam for taking photos of me dancing on Cape Bonavista six months ago ♥️ Couldn’t have done this without ya!
Thank you to @nl.arts.council and @canada.council for supporting the creation of this work and exhibition, you helped make it happen!!
There are many, many more thanks to come as I have had an overwhelming amount of support in creating this body of work, in the meantime I hope you can all see it in person. This has been a very special, amazing, and wonderful learning experience and I can’t wait to see where I go from here ✨✨✨

a collection of sketchbook drawings i did in 2020 and 2021
i haven’t had a sketchbook in a hot minute, these have been nice to look back over- especially as a reminder to myself that a sketchbook is a place for thoughts and silly feelings and weird drawings that don’t need to be complete or understood
some of my favourite things i’ve done are in my sketchbooks, ty sketchbooks, i ♥️ u

wowie wowie wow!!
What an honour and an amazing recognition from @vanlcarfac I feel like I still don’t quite have the words to describe how it feels
Thank you so much @vanlcarfac to my amaaaazing board @wildcovepottery @livetextiles @kclairemac @michelleleahmackinnon @kategolding @emilyjanstudio and john weber for being my amazing #1 supporters through the journey that @unionhousearts has been for me since 2022
special big thanks to @janevwalker for creating the job in the first place, and letting me live in her house when i first came to bonavista, i quite literally wouldn’t be here without you!!! ♥️
being an artist is hard, and being an arts administrator is hard, and it’s been one of the most challenging things i have ever done in my life. BUT, knowing that the work I do has an impact is more than fulfilling enough to keep me going, no matter what the non profit sector throws at me
thank you again everyone, i am so grateful and it is such a privilege to be a part of this community ♥️♥️♥️
congrats to all the winners as well, they are all so well deserved!

time FLIES and i cannot believe the absolute whirlwind my residency with Gros Mourne Creative was!
Here is a snippet of a few of my favourite drawings I did while I was there, Shag Cliff and the view from the marine station has become a dear friend that i hope to see again soon :’)
ty @lysse101 for getting me out there and for the kindness and hospitality and tour of the area! u da best ~

a lil snippet of what my mornings have been the last week
i’ve been drawing portraits of shag cliff and spending a lot of time with the mountains over the last week, i like getting to know their different personalities and how their mood changes throughout the day depending on the weather and the time of day.
I’ve been seeing these drawings as collaboration between me and the mountains, as a way to communicate and have a conversation with them (am i talking to the mountains? kinda? but is that weirder than talking to yourself? i don’t think so)
i’m not too sure what this means yet for me, which is okay because i’ll probably be thinking about it for a long long long time
thank u shag cliff for letting me draw and spend time with you, i will keep you close to my heart ♥️

having fun in gros mourne 💖

my first day in bonne bay :’)
it’s been a bit of whirlwind in getting settled in and balancing work things while also trying to soak in every inch of the west coast. i’m glad to be back in the blanket of mountains that were kind enough to let me call them home for a short time in university, and i’m excited to see what they have to teach me this time round 🏔️
managed this short and quick study before calling it a night, hope ur ready for all things sickeningly pink and femme Gros Mourne 💖💞💓💘💝💖

HAPPY WOMENS DAY 💜🪻💁🏻♀️💜
I am so lucky to be surrounded by so many inspiring and amazing lass’s and ladies that have influenced and continue to guide me in life! Without them I certainly wouldn’t be where I am today and for that I am so grateful :’)
This year I was super lucky to design a beer label for the annual Violet Femmes brew that @portrextonbrew does to support women lead organizations!! This year proceeds from each purchase supports the Bonavista Peninsula Status of Women Council, so if you catch it while it’s out be sure to grab a few! It’s super tasty AND gluten free AND supports an amazing cause! You can find out more info on it by visiting their website B)
Celebrate the women in your life today, and everyday!! They’re too special not too 💜

some paper making asmr from this morning~
i dyed the pulp with some butterfly pea flower, it didn’t stick as much as i was hoping but the paper will still be a really lovely light blue, i’ll probably try soaking the pulp in a mordant next time to get it to stick a bit better :’)
i’ve been thinking a lot about the care and time it takes to make things, how the repetition and the discipline to create everyday (or most days) can be such a gentle process. i’ve been really valuing the softness of winter, and the days have been slowly rolling into one another as i sit in my little studio experimenting and playing with materials that are both familiar and new to me.
I’ve been learning that hibernation can look like many things; early morning coffee in the dark, feeling the wind wip your skin till it’s glowing pink with cold, accepting that the house probably will be a mess for now, cherishing a hot tea at a friends house, and making paper as the light slowly creeps back into a roaring wakefulness.
Winter and rest is truly a time for softness and presence and returning to yourself, and for that i am so very grateful ❄️🤍❄️

My heart is FULL!!!!!!
It has been such a roller coaster working at UHA for the last year and a half, trying to find funding to not only secure my own job but to also support the community of artists i’m lucky to be surrounded by. It has been one of the hardest things I have ever done, BUT!! Thanks to my amazing team of a board we have received the Lacey prize from the National Gallery of Canada, which opens up so many opportunities for staff support, programming, and much much much more!
Love u UHA, can’t wait to see you grow ♥️

here’s a rough animation of an inchworm that i embroidered! idk if i’ll crop it down or not but i kinda like how it is now 🤔

made @heatherofnoland this lil book filled with handmade paper for an art trade! (i got a hand-knit hat in return!)

it feels weird to be embroidering these little squiggly lines again
i’m thinking a lot about inchworms (or the spanworm more specifically) and how they haunted my NL summers as a kid, and how they wrap and tuck themselves into the leaves of the trees, and how when they’re done resting they emerge as delicate white moths that live just long enough to continue the cycle
one of the last and more prominent memories i have of my nans house on Bannerman street is the summer that these white moths descended on the backyard, they may have stripped the trees of the greenery that year, but they also gave me something very special that i still hold onto today

some days or weeks leave me feeling so whole
so whole that my fullness seems to spill out over everything, leaving the world a little brighter and a little more saturated
it’s hard to believe i have been in bonavista for a little over a year now, and while it has been hard and challenging i am so grateful to be where i am and i’m excited to see where i’m going :’)
here’s to spring and the first dandelions peeking out between the grass, and the sad smokey sunsets, and the oceans and the water and all the things that make me feel present (and especially to the amazing community that i have surrounded myself with, i am so happy and grateful to be here) ✨♥️
